The Green Lantern

The Green Lantern was awesome! I don't get out much. With two young children the movies I do get to watch usually happen when the kids are in bed, the volume is turned low, and the subtitles are turned on. If we had babysitters to watch the kids for a few hours, I'd much rather hit the trails and go for a long run! On Saturday, I watched the Green Lantern, on DVD, with my wife, and thoroughly enjoyed it! It resonated with me on a deep level, as a runner and a martial artist.

"Your will turns thought into reality. To master the ring you must learn to focus your will and create what you see in your mind. The ring's limits are only what you can imagine."

The source of the Green Lantern's power is his will. And as runners, our will is one of our greatest sources of energy and inspiration. We create running plans and strategies in our minds, and it is our will carries out the plan. And you are only limited by your own imagination (for the most part).

So on Sunday, I ran 12 miles. It was nothing heroically fast or far. But it was pain-free and it was the longest run I had run since my 50-miler back in December. And I wore a bright green tank top. I finished in 1:41:30, for a 8:28 average pace. At the end of the run, I decided that if there was a superhero that I could be, that I'd be a Green Lantern. Guess what I'm going to be dressed as for Halloween next year!

How about you? If you could be a superhero, who would you be?
